What If

What If was a short film project undertaken with the Damilola Taylor Trust. Workshops took place at the Damilola Taylor Centre in Peckham with a group of media focused young people. The idea was to create a short sketch depicting what would have happened in the life of Damilola if he hadn’t died that fateful day in Peckham. It takes you on a suggested career path in medicine, something young Damilola dreamed of.
Synopsis
Damilola Taylors story is well known. A young Nigerian schoolboy, died from stab wounds to the leg in a Peckham stairwell in November 2000. His killing became one of the UK’s most high profile cases. His father Richard Taylor wanted to empower young people in Peckham to create a story that would keep his sons legacy alive. What If was then created by a group of young aspiring media students, in response to the notion of Damilola becoming a medical doctor. The tale re-enacts a gripping hospital scene in the aftermath of the stabbing, this time Damilola survives.
