Osogbo

Osogbo was the first city in Nigeria to experience the Mirror the Master children’s exhibition art tour.
Osogbo is the home of some of Nigeria’s most prominent and influential artists. Chief Jimoh Buraimoh, Muraina Oyelami and Chief Mrs Nike Okundaye are  among a wealth of artists from Osogbo. Jimoh Buraimoh provided hands on support for the tour, organising a visit for children to the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Oyematonmi. This set the tone for an intense 3 days of art related activity including a visit to Buraimoh’s Heritage Art Gallery where Buraimoh gave talks on art and creativity, including his journey as founding member of the world renowned Osogbo Art School.
There was a visit to Osun Grove, a UNESCO world heritage site where the wife of artist Muraina Oyelami gave a tour and educated all about the world famous Osun festival. Then 2 days of art worshops took place at Nike Okundaye’s art workshop centre. Children were briefed by facilitator Morenikeji Olumide on the artist Ben Enwwonwu, on which the entire tour was themed.
The experience ended with an awards ceremony and culture evening where dance and drama prevailed. Three winning artists were then selected and awarded prizes which included a trip to Lagos for a winners exhibition.
