Chukz Okonkwo

Chukz Okonkwo’s curiosity is revealed in his non-conformist style. This is clear from his work which he uses to explore beauty, sexuality and femininity, spiced with African culture. His titles are deeply connected to his thoughts, feelings and experiences. His work is communicated through painting and mixed media, rich in colour, texture and multiple media layers. His sculped pieces comprise diverse materials like wood, fibre, metal and wire, layered with bright colours.
Chukz uses acrylics boldly, his colours glaring on well blended bases. He favours African female portraits with varying facial expressions, adopting them on his mask-like sculpture panels. His figures appear quite contrasting, either in deep thought or with subtle expression.
Chukz also thrives on symbolic, naturally representative motifs using asymmetric and symmetrical lines and forms on his sculptures. He acknowledges his art influence came from his training at the Enugu art school in Nigeria, a place which set the foundation for his present diverse form. Chukz has been represented on several art platforms both locally in Nigeria and internationally. His conviction is that art is a circle of continuous soul searching.
