Ben Enwonwu (1921 - 1994) was arguably the most prolific Nigerian art figure of our generation. He painted and sculpted using diverse media (wood, bronze, metal, plastics, cement, oil and watercolours). He was brought to international reckoning when Queen Elizabeth II sat for him in the late 1950s.

His legacy is maintained through the work of the Ben Enwonwu foundation

Mirror The Master is touring four major art areas of Nigeria. Osogbo, Benin, Nsukka and Zaria. It started in October 2009 and will end in April 2010. In each zone there will be an art competition where judges will select the best 3 works from all the children's entries. The best 12 works from all 4 zones will be entered into a national competition and exhibition to take place in March 2010 at the ultra-modern new Nike Art Gallery in Lekki, Lagos. During the exhibition, a panel of judges will select the best work from the 12 finalists. The overall winner will receive an exclusive prize of a visit to London to attend some exclusive art galleries and participate in an accompanied viewing to Buckingham Palace and Marlborough House to see the works of Ben Enwonwu and Chinwe Roy who were both commissioned by HM the Queen to sculpt and paint her portraits.
